ALLAN Moore believes that new signing Marc Fitzpatrick proved he will be a fantastic addition to his squad in last night's goalless draw with Rotherham United.

The Ton boss has been on the lookout for a left-sided defender since losing Willie Dyer and Jordan Halsman at the end of last season.

Former Ross County and Motherwell man Fitzpatrick put pen to paper on a one-year deal prior to the pre-season friendly with the English League One outfit. And Moore was both encouraged by the 27-year-old's individual display and his team's efforts in the draw with Rotherham.

He beamed: "I signed Marc Fitzpatrick on a one-year deal before the game and I think we saw tonight that's a great addition.

"His use of the ball is brilliant and his defending is great. He played over 20 games in the SPL with Ross County last season and also played in the Premier League with Motherwell.

"I really think he'll be a great acquisition for us. He gets up and down the park and him and Obri [David O'Brien] will be a great partnership on the left-hand side of the pitch. The boy Joe McKee ran the show at times in the first half. He's got great ability and we played him a bit deeper because Dale Fulton had to pull out with an Achilles problem just before the match.

"We want them to play it from the back. Aye, at times they might get caught but that's the chance you take when you want to play football.

"They were knocking big balls up to their strikers, but I think we tried to play football and passed the ball about really well. We just need that wee final bit in front of goal.

"We created the best chances in the first half. Wee Archie had a peach of a chance when Dougie [Imrie] rolled him in but he's just not connected with it right. I was pleased with the performance tonight. It was another great run-out for the boys. I don't think we got embarrassed at all."

On former player Michael Tidser, who made a brief cameo for the opposition, he added: "He's a good lad. It's a great move for him and I hope he does really well.

"He's got a good head on his shoulders and he's listened and learned over his time here.

"I think he'll make an impact down there."
