THORNIEWOOD have yet to win a league game at home all season, and Greenock aim to make sure it stays that way come the close of play tomorrow.
That’s if, and it’s a very big if, the surface at Robertson Park is clear of snow, after winter returned with a vengeance in midweek.
It would be a real pity if the match was called off, with Greenock very much on a roll just now and looking to make it four wins on the trot.
That run has shot them up to fifth place in the league table, albeit with the majority of the other clubs having games in hand.
But manager Martin Campbell would rather have it that way.
He said: “One of the boys has actually pinned the league table up in the dressing room, and it makes a welcome sight.
“But this is such a tight league that even at that, we are just six points above the relegation zone.
But it’s great to have 22 points in the bag already, and hopefully the sides below us will cut each other up in the coming weeks.” Despite their lowly position of second from bottom in the league standings, Thorniewood have actually been on a decent run themselves of late, as they show signs of recovering from a very poor start to the season.
A more than reasonable haul of 10 points from their last five matches has given them hope of escaping relegation, and their management team will no doubt be reminding their squad that three of those points were won against Greenock, in a 3-2 victory at Ravenscraig in November. In a stormy encounter, the Uddingston men seemed to be cruising at 3-0 up, with Greenock down to 10 men following Martin Orr’s dismissal.
But two goals from Allan Docherty threw Greenock a lifeline, before they were reduced to nine men with the ordering-off of Kevin McKay, now with Port Glasgow.
Red cards have remained an all too familiar sight for Greenock since then, with the latest being shown to Docherty in last week’s match against Glencairn.
But the striker remains eligible to play tomorrow, as his ordering-off was for two bookings, so no suspension.
Martin Dow remains out, though, with one match of his three-game ban for being sent off at Largs still to be served.
Luke Murray is unavailable for tomorrow, but recent signing Kenny Munro, pictured, looks likely to get the chance to build on his impressive start since joining the club, having netted twice last week to add to his earlier goal at Largs.
Kick-off at Robertson Park, Uddingston, is at 1.45pm.
Greenock Juniors are sponsored by SAVEHEAT and the Lighthouse Bar.
