THE weather took a heavy toll on the junior fixtures at the weekend.
Only a third of the scheduled matches went ahead, as torrential rain flooded many pitches.
Both of the local sides were affected, with Greenock’s West of Scotland Cup tie against Yoker postponed for a second time, following the call-off when the game was originally scheduled to be played in December.
A third attempt will now be made to play the tie, but it won’t be this Saturday, as Greenock are back on league business with a trip to face Neilston.
In the only match played in the Super League First Division on Saturday, there was a shock result as runaway league leaders Pollok went down 2-0 at home to Glencairn, with the win moving the Rutherglen side up to within two points of Greenock in the league table.
Meanwhile, Port Glasgow were also out of action, as a waterlogged pitch at Victoria Park led to their game against Newmains being called off early on Saturday morning.
Just one match went ahead in the Port’s league, but it was a very significant one.
Rossvale’s 4-2 win over Vale of Leven on the astroturf at Petershill saw them clinch the Central League Second Division title.
The achievement is all the more noteworthy as the club only joined the junior ranks in the 2011-12 season.
They had earlier taken the decision to set up a junior section with the aim of allowing the club’s ex-youth players to remain in the game at a decent standard.
The defeat for the Vale all but rules them out of the race for one of the two remaining promotion places.
And it is the Alexandria men who will be the Port’s next opponents, with the sides due to meet at Parklea this Saturday.
