GREENOCK boss Martin Campbell is urging his men to go all out for victory tomorrow, as they head to Irvine Vics for another vital league clash.
Successive draws with Cumbernauld and Neilston in the past fortnight have brought two hard-earned points, but Campbell, below, is looking for a further step up in performance.
He said: “We have played well at times in those last two matches, but have also huffed and puffed a bit. The points gained were certainly valuable, but I would like us to get over the line tomorrow and get the win.’’ Victory at Irvine would be doubly precious, not only cementing the ‘Nock’s mid-table position, but also dealing a blow to the Vics chances of avoiding relegation.
They Ayrshire side currently sit just one place above the drop zone, four points behind Greenock but with a game in hand. But gaffer Campbell is hoping the likes of Jamie Cunning can deliver another dazzling display, to add to the good impression the Dunoon-based youngster has made since signing up at Ravenscraig a few weeks ago.
That included a spectacular 25-yard drive to haul his side back into contention at Neilston last week after they had gone 3-1 down.
Campbell said: ‘’I have nothing but praise for the way Jamie has adapted to junior football, which can often be difficult for players stepping up from the amateurs.
‘’His performances have been all the more noteworthy as he has been asked to play in a position that he is not used to, but he has adapted well and is doing great.’’ Meanwhile, the side’s assistant manager John Boyd and coach John Paul Dow may be spared having to be on the subs bench tomorrow, with the return of a few players who missed the game at Neilston last Saturday.
Allan Docherty, Martin Orr and Brendan Gillan are all available for Saturday, but Sean Doherty remains out through injury.
Kick-off at Victoria Park, Irvine is at 2pm.
Greenock Juniors are sponsored by SAVEHEAT, and the Lighthouse Bar.
