Cairnie was farmed out to his local junior outfit, Ardrossan Winton Rovers, for the final four months of last season, helping them claim the Ayrshire District League by scoring in their title-clinching win over Darvel.
He has been on the fringes of Jim Duffy’s first-team this term, making one substitute appearance, against Dumbarton in the Petrofac Cup in July, as well as being an unused sub on eight occasions.
But the Ton boss had decided that the 19-year-old’s development will be best served by a stint playing regular league football with struggling Shire.
And Under-20s regular Cairnie, who can also play in midfield or up front, could make his debut in tomorrow’s match against Elgin City should the paperwork be registered in time.
