NICKY Cadden says he’s ‘over the moon’ to be reunited with his former manager David Hopkin after sealing a Morton switch.
Cadden joins on a one-year deal, after signing on at Cappielow on Wednesday.
The winger previously played under Hopkin at Livingston, and was a regular in their League One title winning side in 2016-17, scoring nine goals in 43 appearances.
When Hopkin left Almondvale last summer, he made four starts, with eight appearances off the bench in the Premiership.
That lack of first-team action sparked a loan move to Ayr United for the second half of the season, where he helped the Honest Men secure a play-off spot.
But now Cadden wants to play regularly again, and he says Hopkin was a big part of the reason he’s decided to join the Sinclair Street club.
He told the Tele: “I’m delighted, it’s a chance to work with the gaffer again and I’m over the moon at that. “We’ve been in contact for a wee while.
“When I went to speak to him about his plans for the club and his plans for me it was really positive and it was a nobrainer after that.
“I worked with him at Livi and I really enjoyed it.
“I couldn’t speak highly enough of him.
“I just feel as if I’ve got a good connection with him.
“Obviously he knows me and I know him, I know what’s going to be expected of me and I know what to expect from him. “We already have that understanding.
“I just want to be playing games again and enjoy my football and I can’t wait for the new season ahead.”
Cadden says last season was tough on him. The winger was unexpectedly shipped out on loan to Ayr after regularly being in the match-day squads for Livingston.
Now he’s keen to kick on — and wants to add more goals and assists to his game at the Ton.
He added: “It was a weird one, I was playing with Livi and then they just wanted me to go out on loan.
“It was a strange season altogether and hopefully it’s behind me now and I can get a run of games under the gaffer. “I want to score more goals.
“I need to add more goals to my game, I want to add them and a few more assists as well.”
Morton players return to pre-season training today, and going by previous experiences under Hopkin, Cadden is expecting a tough shift as the work for next season gets under way.
He added: “It’s going to be hard. “We’ve been off for a month and we need to plug away and get on with it ahead of the new season.”
