MORTON midfielder Chris Millar is relishing squaring off against his old St Johnstone team-mates as David Hopkin takes charge of his first game at Cappielow tonight.
Millar rejoined the Ton at the start of last season after 10 years at McDiarmid Park.
Although it is only a friendly, the veteran insists he is eager to get one up on his old friends as Ton’s pre-season preparations continue.
Millar told the Tele: “It’s my old club and I’ve got some great memories there.
“I’m still friendly with Tommy Wright and a lot of the players.
“I’ve been speaking to them about their pre-season tour of Northern Ireland and they’ve had a few decent results.
“It should be a really competitive game and have a an extra edge to it because of the occasion, but when you’re playing against your old team you always want to win.”
Millar, who started in Saturday’s 1-0 friendly defeat to Forfar, believes taking on Saints will be perfect preparation for their opening Betfred Cup group game against Dumbarton next Tuesday.
He said: “It’s all about getting our fitness levels up and getting ready for our first competitive game.
“It’s not about proving points. I had a great 10 years there, it’s about winning for Morton, the gaffer and my team-mates.
“They’re a proven top six team and they’ve played in Europe, which I was a part of, and I’m looking forward to the game.”
