MORTON striker Robbie Muirhead is expecting a hot reception from Ayr United supporters at Somerset Park on Saturday.
Muirhead, who hails from Kilmarnock and played at Rugby Park for two years, believes there’s no love lost between him and the Honest Men.
The 23-year-old, who arrived at Cappielow in the summer, says it would mean a lot to him to silence his old foes by getting Ton’s Championship campaign off to a flying start.
He told the Tele: “It’s a local derby for me, being from Kilmarnock. It’s a big enough game for me on a personal level, but it’s also our league opener.
“It’s important that we start off the season on the front foot and give ourselves something to build on from the get-go.
“It’ll be the first time I’ve seen Ayr this season after they’ve lost a few bodies like Lawrence Shankland over the summer, so it’s going to be interesting to see if they can repeat last season’s form.
“Obviously the game against Queen of the South let us know where we stand a bit in terms of how we’ll look this season.
“It was disappointing losing the goals in the way we did, so we’ll be looking to kick on this Saturday.”
