MORTON defensive rock Jack Baird believes his side can build on their fifth place finish and go one step further next term after missing out on the playoffs on goal difference.
The big centre back signed off his season by notching his seventh goal of the campaign, a career best, and he admits that he’s looking forward to the new one already as he looks to build on the foundations put down this campaign.
The 27-year-old told the Tele: “I think sometimes it's an issue for clubs at this level, high turnovers of players every year.
“It probably won’t be the case for us as we’ve got the core of our team nailed down for next year.
“We’ve got a lot of good players here.
“The gaffer’s done brilliantly here and he’s building something with a really good team, we’ve got a continuity here now and we can only look forward.
“The League Cup sections start really quickly so we’ve just got to enjoy our summer now, get a nice holiday and come back to some familiar faces to get it going all again.
“It has been a long season so we’ll go away have a good break and look forward to getting back on it in six weeks.”
