FOUR of Inverclyde’s athletes took part in indoor heats held at Ayr, Pitreavie and Aberdeen and won through to the finals.
In the U20s, Jonathan Cameron won silver in the long jump and bronze in the high jump after a countback for silver medal position.
Sadly, Lochlann Steele had to withdraw from his 60m sprint final due to a niggling injury he picked up during the heats.
While not in the medals, U15 athletes Sol Currie (60m hurdles and high jump) and Olivia Law (60m and long jump) can be satisfied with their performances at the finals.
Olivia finished fifth in the long jump with a new PB, after recording a PB in the 60m.
Sol jumped to his PB in the high jump and ran a new PB in the hurdles.
Fellow U15 Ruaridh McLellan entered the finals on a ‘wild card’ and came home with two new PBs in the 60m hurdles and long jump.
The club thanks coach Emma Forster and the parents who supported these young athletes at the various venues.
With the Emirates Arena Track closed due to refurbishment for the World Indoor Track and Field Championships taking place at the beginning of March, the usual calendar of events held over the winter months has been decimated with no indoor league and only some competition for limited events taking place at venues which have an indoor track.
Credit is due to the events team of scottishathletics who created a series of heats culminating in a finals weekend at Grangemouth Stadium. Track events were limited to 60m and 60m hurdles, with long jump, high jump, triple jump, pole vault and shot putt on offer for the field athletes.
