GREENOCK Wanderers U13s survived a late fightback from Cumnock to claim a hugely impressive win down in Ayrshire.
On a perfect day for rugby on Cumnock's top of the range 3G pitch, the home side started out strongest and scored two early tries.
But Greenock gradually came back into the game with tries from Isaac and Jake to tie the game.
Cumnock kept utilising their superior handling skills to spin the ball wide and only last-ditch tackles from Greenock kept them from pulling away.
The second period was Greenock’s time to shine with some excellent interplay and strong running and further tries from Isaac and Jake piled on the points to put the Fort Matilda side 40-26 ahead.
A further try by player-of-the match Jake put Greenock well ahead but Cumnock came back strongly with two well worked tries of their own to get within one score at 47-40.
Cumnock had a scrum on the Greenock ten-metre line with the last play of the game and got to within five metres of the line but strong defending from Wanderers kept them out and forced the turnover to seal the win for the away side.
It was a great team performance from all of the players to keep the winning streak going against a very strong Cumnock.
