COOL customers have been having a n-ice time at the Waterfront Leisure Complex over the Easter holidays.

The team at Inverclyde Leisure are running skate camps during the school break for young people who want to improve their skills on the rink.

Coaches have welcomed youngsters of all ages and abilities for fun lessons and practice sessions where they've been finding out more about gliding across the ice.

Inverclyde Leisure also partnered with Active Schools to offer 36 free spaces to youngsters, giving them the chance to participate in the sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Skating co-ordinator Kayleigh Munro says this year's camps have been a great success.

She said: "The youngsters have had a lot of fun and learned a lot.

"It's great for young people to be doing something active during the Easter holidays.

"Skating is something different for them to try and it's really good exercise for them as well.

"We're so pleased with the turnout, it's been great."

The first half hour of each session was dedicated to youngsters who were total beginners.

Skaters with a bit more confidence on the ice then got the chance to try out all of their skills for another 90 minutes.

Coach Rebecca McConnachie worked closely with the young people on the Learn to Skate programme.

At the end of the first week, the young people took part in a lot of games and races to celebrate their achievements.

Talented young skater Emily Devlin also squeezed in some practice with coach Kayleigh before heading to the Blackpool Skating Festival with members of the Waterfront Ice Skating Club.

Greenock Telegraph:
Kayleigh said it was great to see young people of all ages and abilities having so much fun learning about the sport together.

She added: "It's a liberating feeling being out there on the ice, there's so much freedom of movement and motion involved.

"It's been really rewarding for them and it's rewarding for us as coaches when we see them developing their skills."
