THE sun shone on Ardgowan Club as it served up a successful start to the new season.
Around 70 club members and guests gathered at the Greenock club for the opening of its bowling and tennis sections.
President Jim Cleland became the first tennis member to take on the club’s top office as his partner Audrey Galloway delivered the first jack and bowl of the season. Evelyn Robertson, wife of club vice president Evelyn Robertson, served the first tennis ball of the season.
The pair were joined by tennis section representative Chris Orr for the ceremony.
The club is now looking ahead to another busy season, with both sections having a range of exciting activities booked into their calendars.
Honorary secretary Gilbert McCracken told the Tele the members were keen to get started.
He said: “We had a fantastic opening day, thanks in no small part to the good weather and the excellent turnout from our members. It was good to see so many familiar faces.
“The club would like to thank the guests from our kindred clubs who came along to enjoy a brilliant opening day. Both our bowling section and our tennis section have big seasons ahead with plenty of competitions and social events on the horizon. There will be plenty of opportunities to try both sports throughout the season.
“The bowling section are going to be running ‘come and try sessions’ in the coming weeks which we hope will give people a chance to get out the house and give something new a go.
“We’ll put details about these sessions up on our Facebook page so anyone interested should check there. We’re looking forward to getting back into the swing of things and having another successful season.”
