INVERCLYDE Athletic Club were well represented at the 2024 London Marathon, the most prestigious mass participation race in the UK, as Colin Doherty would claim bronze in the men’s Veteran 40 category, as part of the Scottish Marathon Championships.

Colin Doherty ran a time of 2 hours, 31 minutes 07 seconds to be the first athlete home from the club in the race. Aiming to break his personal best of 2:28:32, Colin strode at the halfway point in 1:13, but a tough ending saw him just outside 2:30 – a gutsy run for him. Despite no personal best, Colin would be third in his age group in Scotland.

Ten minutes down the road was David Henderson, who recorded his second-best marathon time from the 13 that he has ran. A measured effort saw him cross the line in 2:41:23, just three minutes short of his own record.

The third man home was Al Myers, who finished in 2:47:41, running nearly perfect splits in the process.

Megan Stirling, a member of Inverclyde AC’s jogging group, ran her second quickest marathon to date in a time of 4:20:29 as part of a larger 2024 challenge, raising funds for Phab, an inclusive charity that creates clubs for disabled and non-disabled people across the United Kingdom.

The London Marathon was her third event of the year, with four more to go throughout the rest of the year.
