MORTON boss Dougie Imrie says he would be prepared to wait for the right No.9 to become available as his search for a George Oakley replacement continues.

The Ton chief welcomed a trialist into training yesterday as he looks to run the rule over his next possible focal point in attack - but he addressed one key area he'd also like to add too before the end of the transfer window.

The Tele revealed last week that Imrie was interested in reuniting with former Player of The Year, Liam Grimshaw who's currently out of favour at Dundee United, and he's since confirmed he's looking for a midfield option as he listed the challenges that's coming with this year's rebuild.

He told the Tele: "Listen, it's the same for every team, we're all looking for that No.9. But they're hard to come by, so playing the waiting game might be needed.

"If I'm being honest I could be doing with another midfielder as well. So we're always actively working and looking to improve the squad that we've got here.

"I've got someone in this week to have a look at and to see where it goes. But we lost 35 goals out of last season's team. Losing those kind of figures is always going to be hard to replace."

The Ton chief says that he's taking positives from his side's league cup performances despite being unable to qualify from Premier Sports Cup group F.

He says his side need to move the ball quicker if they're to hit the ground running in league duty.

He added: "You always need to try and take the positives from each game, I even thought that there were positives to take from the game on Saturday.

"I thought our play at times was very good, when we move the ball that bit quicker and take less touches the ball seems to move sharper.

"But you won't get away with that against a top opposition though, they understand the game.

"You might get away with it in the Championship but not against a top level side, I thought St Johnstone pressed us well at times."
