Newark Angling Club returned from Loch Tay with perhaps their poorest catch record in recent times.

A total of 20 members journeyed to the Scottish loch, recalled for bountiful Brown Trout, only to manage four returns.

The rather disappointing endeavour comprised the second leg of the Jim McEwan memorial Trophy.

Despite the let-down, there were still commendable feats; Joe O'Brian managed a catch at the famous Fearnan mark using the maggot method.

George Gemmell (Sr) however, outshone with three Tay brown Trout under a pound each, making him the excursion's winner.

Reigning champion Barry Doolan still managed to maintain a lead for the trophy, with a catch weighing in just under two pounds.

Unfortunately, the club's juniors returned empty.

The last leg in September hopes to redeem the Newark Angling Club's reputation on Loch Tay.
