FANS were given a sneak preview of top new signing Jay Emmanuel Thomas as he joined the rest of the squad at Cappielow.

All eyes were on the former Aberdeen and Livingstone front man at the open training session as he was put through his paces by manager Dougie Imrie and his coaching staff.

The attacker is one of a number of new signings on show at the public session, and one of four English players to join the Scottish Championship side.

Morton's open training session came as the team put their final preparations in place before kicking off the new league season at Firhill against last year's play off side Patrick Thistle.

Chairman John Laird, who was  watching on as the side training in front of fans, is looking forward to the new season.

He  said: "I am delighted with all the new signings including the four new English players. It is great to have Jay join us to line up with Lamar Reynolds.

"It is going to be a tough challenge next season but we are up for it. Our manager is introducing a whole new way of playing.

"The important thing is getting the signings.  It is great to see them out there and the response of the fans. "

There are 11 signings so far with Emmanuel Thomas joining Reynolds as well as Jordan Davies.

After the training session Jay joined the rest of the team to sign autographs and greet fans.

The chairman says he is determined to support both the manager Dougie Imrie and the general manager Dale Pryde-MacDonald.

He added: "This is a very important year with our 150th anniversary and we have commitments both on and off the field with the stadium, which is one of the oldest of its kind.

"We are really keen to build up, our general manager Dale is doing a great job. Our new Team Ton supporters club for the under 12s has been a great addition. We have 140 young members and we want to keep them.

"It is very much a transition year for us. It is about getting everything right both on and off the park."
