Greenock's cricket team will return to the south side of Glasgow this Saturday, facing East Renfrewshire at their Giffnock ground.

This follows their narrow nine-run defeat to Kilmarnock last week.

East Renfrewshire, who gained entry to the Western Premiership Two league at the end of the 2023 season, has endured many losses this term with only four wins out of 11 games.

They are at the second bottom position in the league.

One of their few wins, however, was against Greenock in June when the Duckworth Lewis Stern system prematurely called a rain-interrupted game.

Greenock had 172 runs for seven, while the host team had 127 for four when the rain intervened.

Yet, the system declared East Renfrewshire as winners for being ahead at that time.

Due to such losses, Greenock now stands fifth in the Western Premiership Two league with a 57.67 percentage, with just four more games in the season.

The upcoming match will take place at the newly formed Woodfarm Playing Fields, which, despite having hosted high-scoring games, has seen cancellations due to post-rain ground conditions.

To succeed, Greenock must thwart East Renfrewshire's crucial batters, Wajid Zaman, Mo Choudhary and Ali Qazi.

A winning strategy reportedly hinges on their Australian players, Connor Nowlan and Angus Tolhurst, who have both made critical contributions throughout the summer.

Saturday's Greenock line-up will include captain GJ McDougall after an injury absence, but Cammy Calder, Harry Briggs, and Sehmet Pandher are unavailable.

Ewan Stewart, pivotal in their recent victory against Langside, is also out due to injury.

However, all-rounder Faheem Dinarkhel, who performed well with Greenock's second team, is recalled.

The match at Glenpark starts at 12pm.
