PORT GLASGOW boss Tam Jamieson wants his side to make a statement when they travel to Glasgow tonight to face top of the table Knightswood.
The Undertakers boss has backed his side to defy the odds against the side who are sitting top of the GreenVersity WOSFL Fourth Division.
And with just three points separating the Port men and their hosts, victory for Jamieson's men tonight would leave the two teams tied at the top of the standings against a Knightswood side who have the division's only remaining 100 per cent record.
Jamieson is looking to welcome back two senior members of his squad ahead of the tie and he believes that when given the opportunity to play together, they’ll be deadly.
He told the Tele: “We could send a statement out if we were to get a good result against Knightswood tonight.
“We were in a similar mindset for when we were playing Rossvale midweek a fortnight ago.
"There was all this talk about how they were playing and how they’d recruited. But speaking to their manager before the game he was saying that they’d be as well not playing a game, because they’d already won promotion by the way people were talking.
“They know what it takes to get out of this league, but we managed to go on and beat them, so if we can do the same against Knightswood in the same circumstance then we’ll go level on points with them again. It’d be all to play for."
The Undertakers go into the game on a high after a 4-0 home win over BSC Glasgow on Saturday, though Knightswood did even better with a 7-0 thrashing of Giffnock maintaining their 100 per cent start to the campaign.
But Jamieson reckons his team can be more than a match for the Glasgow men in Wednesday's clash, which will be played at Lochburn Park, home of Maryhill FC.
“Everyone’s an unknown for us in this league," he continued.
"Knightswood are no different in that regard, but I’m led to believe that they’ve recruited quite well ahead of the season.
“But then again, so have we. It’s possible that we’ll have a couple back ahead of today’s game. Chris Millar will be back from a holiday and we’re hoping that Gary Pettigrew will be fit again.
“They’ll be looking to come back in again which will only make us stronger come Wednesday.
“We’ve got good experience in the side. If we can get them all playing at the same time then we’ll be all right.
"We’ve not had the chance to play them all together yet, so once we do, we’ll be a challenge for anyone in the division.”
