PREPARATIONS for Morton's William Hill Championship clash against Queen's Park have been dealt with a curve-ball ahead of next month's clash.

Ton were due to travel to Hampden to take on Callum Davidson's Spiders at the national stadium, who had been pencilled in to play their first game of the season at their far bigger former home after completing their early season fixtures at the newly renovated City Stadium, better known as Lesser Hampden.

However, as a result of knock-on effects caused by international fixtures and delays in renovations at Ibrox that has seen Premiership side Rangers temporarily use the national stadium, the game has now this afternoon been moved back to Lesser Hampden.

The decision could see Morton fans miss out on a trip to Glasgow's south side for the second time in two seasons - with an extremely limited capacity at the stadium meaning that the Cappielow side's away allocation could be cut.

A statement released earlier this afternoon said: "Queen’s Park are keen to ease the uncertainty our members, season ticket holders and supporters are feeling over where the club will play their home fixtures in September.

"Currently, Hampden Park is the designated venue for William Hill Championship, the SPFL Trust Trophy, Premier Sports Cup, William Hill Premiership, European and International matches.

"As some of these fixtures could be subject to change due to cup draws and to Broadcasting live on TV commitments, which could have a knock-on effect on games due to be played at Hampden, Queen’s Park requested permission from the SPFL for a change of venue for the Greenock Morton fixture to the city stadium.

"The SPFL have agreed to the request for the Greenock Morton fixture, which will go ahead on Saturday, September 14 at 3.00pm at The city Stadium.

"Announcements on further games in September will be advised after this weekend’s Premier Sports Cup ties.

"We are aware that the decision to move the Greenock Morton game has implications for our visitors and Queen’s Park supporters and regret the inconvenience this may cause.

"The capacity at the city ctadium allows for all Queen’s Park members, season ticket holders and the regular walk-up fans to attend, however we are aware that a small number of fans may be unable to purchase a ticket.

"We also acknowledge the disappointment that some supporters of Greenock Morton will experience as they will no longer be able to attend as the ticket allocation to their club will be restricted."

Ton fans famously missed out on a trip to Hampden last October after monsoon conditions left Inverclyde all but cut off from the rest of the central belt.
