MORE than 100 participants took part in the latest edition of the Greenock Park Run last weekend.
On a morning when the weather god were kind to the runners, 111 people ran, jogged and walked the course as the event welcomed 17 first timers and watched on with delight as five recorded new personal bests.
Representatives of nine different clubs took part, with runners from as far afield as Norfolk, Strathaven, Motherwell, Airdrie, Cambuslang and Cumbernauld joining participants from Greenock Glenpark Harriers and Inverclyde AC.
Dean Campbell, Neil McLeod, Ged Doyle, Zac Reynolds, Ross White, Julie Smee and Alasdair Hendry all began their parkrun journeys.
Five fantastic runners, Iain Macissac, Dylan Weir, Cara McDougall, Janice Lowles and Sophie Leitch all recorded new PBs.
Milestones were achieved by runners Lyla Harrison, who completed her 10th parkrun, and Ciaran Prabhu, who completed his 50th, with both runners completing all of their runs at Greenock.
Daniel Doherty was first runner to finish in 17 minutes 21 seconds. He was followed by Neil Lafferty 15 seconds behind him. Completing the top three men was Alan Callan, who ran the course just under a minute slower.
First timer Emilia Farnell of North Norfolk Harriers AC, was first lady to complete the course in 23 minutes 33 seconds. She was followed by another first timer, Maria Hunter of Airdrie Harriers, finishing five seconds behind.
Finishing in 11 minutes further back, June Jackson completed the top three ladies.
A parkrun spokesperson added: "The event was made possible by 16 volunteers; Lesley Dick, Richard McGowan, Moira McCluckie, Jim Brannigan, Stephen Harrison, Lynne Harrison, Rebecca Laird, Irene McIntosh, Jill Aikman, Gordon Robetson, Barry McGugan, Stephanie McCann, Tracey Howe, Marjorie Morrison, Charlotte McKay and Andrew Searil.
"We are always looking for volunteers to come along and help out on a Saturday morning.
"If we don't have a full roster, we cannot go ahead. There are many roles to be undertaken and training will be given for them all.
"If you would like to help out, please email greenock@parkrun.com or message our Facebook page."
