Greenock Cricket Club has ascended to fourth position in the Western Premiership Two after beating promotion-seeking Kelburne at Glenpark.

During the game, held last Saturday, Greenock triumphed over Kelburne with a five-wicket win, marking a notable improvement in its track.

Before the second half of the season, Kelburne showcased a fantastic track record, winning all nine matches in the first half of the league season.

However, the tide turned in the second half of the season as they lost four out of the six matches.

One of these matches was abandoned midway due to bad weather.

Kelburne now clings to the second-top position after a rough start to the latter half of the season.

Saturday's win has given Greenock the opportunity to aim for the third-top position in the league if they defeat Irvine and Renfrew in the next couple of games.

The match against Kelburne was delayed until 2.30pm due to wet conditions caused by bad weather leading up to Saturday.

The overs per side were reduced to 35 due to the delay.

Opting to bat first, Kelburne did not make much headway, managing only twelve runs before Juan Steyn was caught out at 4, making it the first of Kelburne's many subsequent losses.

The innings experienced a mid-game collapse with the score standing at 42 for the loss of 6 wickets in the 20th over.

Kelburne's entire team was bowled out for 78 by the 32nd over.

Greenock's most successful bowlers were Sam Sanghera and Angus Tolhurst with impressive figures of 4 for 14 and 3 for 15 respectively.

Greenock, on the whole, seemed to have a simple task ahead requiring merely 79 runs to claim victory from the available 35 overs.

However, there was a déjà vu of their unsuccessful attempt at scoring 134 from 50 overs against Kilmarnock two weeks earlier.

While on that previous occasion, Greenock failed to deliver, this time around, Chirag Pandher and Angus Tolhurst managed to score the needed runs.

After a bad start with 23 runs for 3 wickets in the first six overs, the tide turned.

The duo conquered the situation smoothly, scoring eight boundaries in the next seven overs.

This brought Greenock to an excellent and victorious position with a five-wicket win.

By the end, Tolhurst scored 17 runs with three boundaries not out, and Pandher, on the other hand, managed an unbeaten 26 with six boundaries.

Pandher wrapped up the win with a spectacular hit that smashed a front window of the Clubhouse, marking a dramatic end to the match.

On another note, Greenock 2ndXI Glenpark bagged its seventh league win of the season against Galloway 2ndXI last Saturday.

This win, however, does not include a previous victory against Stirling County 3rdXI since the latter withdrew partway through the season.

Following a closely fought match, Glenpark XI beat Galloway 2nd XI by scoring 112 with their opponents managing just 103.
