HOCKEY is set to embark on a whole new chapter within Inverclyde as Greenock Hockey club proudly unveiled a new-look for a new era away from Morton in the Community.

The club, who now have four senior sides playing out of Inverclyde Academy, moved away from the Morton in the Community portfolio at the end of last season.

And the top brass have since been working around the clock alongside club members to give the side a fresh look ahead of the 2024/25 season.

However, to try and make the transition and new look as iconic as possible, committee members called for the say of the clubs members of all ages as they look to represent the area that they call home.

Two of the big players behind the new chapter, Fraser Melville and Jennifer Love couldn't hide their excitement as they look to make the sport more accessible to everyone in the area, as Inverclyde's only hockey club.

"It's a really exciting time for us," said Love. "We'd been a part of the trust for a long time.

"But it's been really fun getting all the members involved to come up with what they'd want to wear in regards to a badge and strips.

"It's been really good to have everyone involved and we're really looking forward to the future."

"One of the things we knew we wanted from the start was to get everyone involved. At our yearly quiz night, we'd asked people to draw up what they'd hoped the badge would look like and what colours would prove popular.

"We'd saw things like the Titan crane and Lyall Hill included in a lot of drawings, so we'd sent them off to Ivy Designs and they were able to put together the badge, making it a reality and a badge that we'll now play under."

Melville took the lead in organising new-look kits for the club as they move away from playing in Morton strips, similar to the football pathway.

They'll now don pink and black strips moving forward, in an iconic look to get their new chapter underway.

"It was a similar process with the kits," he added. "Our old colours when we played at the cricket club were red and blue, which I think some people had voted for as a nostalgic factor. However I think most wanted to move away from it.

"We wanted to have that new identity really. We've got new colours, a new kit and a new badge to get our new era underway.

"We've got four senior sides now as well as the youth sections. We can't wait to see what the future holds."
