INVERCLYDE’S top golfers have been crowned as Gourock Golf Club hosted the area’s annual ‘Champion of Champions’ events.
The day featured the ladies, gents, junior and veteran champions from all four clubs in the Inverclyde Golf Association – Gourock, Greenock, Port Glasgow and Whinhill.
The ladies’ event, between Emma Boyd of Gourock Golf Club and Greenock’s Dorothy Fisher, was evenly balanced in the early stages and was all square after five holes, but Emma soon hit her stride and was three up by the turn.
Despite Dorothy getting the margin back down to two holes by the 13th, Emma was not to be denied and went on to secure the title at the 16th hole by a margin of 4 and 2.
Greenock Golf Club’s Paul Dorrian, meanwhile, was crowned the gents’ champion of champions for a third year running, defeating Steven Higgins of Gourock by 2 and 1 in the final; Ryan Gallagher of Port Glasgow and Whinhill’s John Donald were the beaten semi-finalists.
Callum Watters, representing both Gourock and Greenock, was crowned the junior champion of champions.
The veterans’ title is decided by a 18-hole strokeplay round, with the best net score being declared the winner, and was won by Gerry Donnachie of Greenock Golf Club, who won by four shots from Myles Gallacher of Whinhill, with Hugh McGivern of Port Glasgow and Gourock’s Robert McGregor in third and fourth place respectively.
A spokesperson for the Inverclyde Golf Association said: “Inverclyde Golf would like to thank Gourock Golf Club for hosting the events, with the course presented in excellent condition for the competitors.
“The events were blessed with some excellent golf by some great golfers, young and old. All matches were played in an excellent sporting manner and mutual respect between all competitors was evident.
“Congratulations go to Emma, Paul, Callum and Gerry and to all who took part in the competitions.
“All champions were tremendous ambassadors for their golf clubs.”
