THE top team at an Inverclyde community radio station welcomed a sporting icon into the studio last week.

Clyde Coast Radio invited legendary broadcaster Dougie Donnelly to Port Glasgow to speak about his career live on air.

Dougie, who has recently unveiled his autobiography My Life in Sport, chatted to the team at the station about his time as a presenter on Sportscene and Grandstand, and about the role of a presenter on music radio, where he started his career with Radio Clyde in the 1970s.

"The book is as much about music as it is about sport," he said.

"I'm so pleased to be invited to come on and speak about my career.

"It's great to be here."

Dougie, who also covered four Olympic Games, three Winter Olympics and four Commonwealth Games, and went on to present coverage of European Tour competitions on the Golf Channel after leaving the BBC, said he has great memories of reporting on Morton over the years.

He added: "One of my first ever match reports was from Cappielow at Morton v Dundee.

"That was in the days of Andy Ritchie, Neil Orr, Allan McGraw. It was a great team at that time.

"I've been in Greenock fairly regularly over the years, and it's great to be in Port Glasgow today."
