MORTON new boy Austin Samuels says he needs to hit the ground running at Cappielow as he looks to make the most of the chance handed to him by Dougie Imrie.

The ex-Wolves and Inverness forward penned a short term contract until the end of January late last week, and ended a year-long exile from first team football after coming on as a substitute against Hamilton Accies on Friday night.

And he says that the fact he's only got a deal until January is a big enough incentive for him to try and prove his worth on Sinclair Street as he looks to make a favourable impression over the next three months.

He told the Tele: "It's a short-term deal, so it's a chance for both parties to see how their finding the agreement.

"But I've got to use that as my incentive to hit the ground running and really show what I can do.

"It means I need to push right from the off, it's not like I've got a two year contract to fall back on where you could maybe work your way in over a period of time.

"I've got to hit the ground running. I felt like I had a good game, holding the ball up and getting into good positions.

"Yeah, I could've had a goal, but I fully believe that if I keep on getting into those positions then I'm confident that I'll put the ball in the back of the net more times than not.

"You don't want those cobwebs to show, but sometimes they do especially after a period of time like that.

"I feel like I had a good game, and if I'd have scored then it'd have made it a bit better, but it's a platform for me to start from.

"This is my chance to put everything behind me and I'm determined to take it."
