MORTON legend Chris Millar says he's loving the way that Dougie Imrie's new look Cappielow side are taking flight in the early stages of the season.
The Port Glasgow-born midfielder, who made more than 250 appearances for the club over two spells at Cappielow, returned to Greenock earlier this month to join in his former side's 150th anniversary celebrations and he's been impressed with the new direction that Ton boss Imrie is looking to take the team.
And he says that the players are there to go and make a success of the project that Imrie is currently undertaking.
He told the Tele: "I've watched Morton a few times this season and was obviously at the game for the 150th anniversary, where they beat Raith Rovers.
"I was really impressed. I thought they played some really good stuff.
"I know they'd maybe lacked in the final third for a few games, but the manager has obviously added Filip Stuparevic to the squad, bringing him in on loan from Motherwell.
"I thought he took his goal really well against Raith and he's then gone and scored again against Hamilton on Friday night.
"That also means they've recorded back-to-back wins, and that only breeds confidence.
"But they do play some really nice stuff, playing out from the back, and it's really quite refreshing to see.
"I do always keep an eye out for them, and I hope that they can really kick on now and keep on winning games.
"For me, when I played I liked to get on the ball and move it around, so seeing them do it now is nice to see. They've also got the players in there that to do it.
"Niall McGinn's in there controlling the game, Cameron Blues is able to do it, as is Iain Wilson.
"He can come and take the ball, he's tidy with it, and Owen Moffat is really good on the ball as well. Ultimately you play to your strengths with the players you've got on the pitch.
"Even the boys at the back, like Jack Baird, can play one-on-one because they're big, strong and quick.
"I really enjoyed going and watching them and hopefully that means it'll keep them winning games."
Millar though, is just grateful to see his former side look like continuing their upward trajectory under Imrie.
The 41-year-old left the club after helping them scrape their way to Championship survival in 2021, and after a tumultuous final campaign, he's delighted to see a club he cares about so dearly look like they're turning a corner.
"It's really good to see the club doing so well," he added.
"From where it looked like the club was going towards the end of my second spell, it really looks like they're turning a corner.
"I hope they continue to do that. Ultimately how it's going on the pitch impacts what goes on off it. At the end of the day the club needs the support.
"If they've got it going right on the pitch, pushing towards the top half of the table then the people will continue to come, long may it continue.
"It was really nice to be back the other week, to see some familiar faces and even get a ripple from the crowd.
"I've only played with two clubs in my career, Morton and St Johnstone, so they hold a special place in my heart, and I want to see them do well."
