GREENOCK Wanderers are looking to get back to winning ways and put the heavy defeats of recent weeks behind them with a trip to Stewartry, writes John Dyer.
Wanderers make the journey to Castle Douglas on Saturday, firstly looking for an improved performance but also looking to pick up what could be a vital win after losses to Ardrossan Accies, Strathmore and Moray.
Wanderers lie just a single point above their Tennents National Division Four opponents, who have a game in hand on the Fort Matilda side.
From the outset, though Wanderers will have to bring grit, determination and spadework by the bucket load if they want to take enough of the chances they make to take something from the match.
There were some good performances against Moray last time around from some members of the team, but moving forward, it has to be a team effort.
Selection at this time is uncertain as some players are injured and receiving treatment and others are waiting on work commitments.
Hopefully Harrison, the backs' playmaker, will return to the side and be joined by Robb, who looks to return to the forwards.
Stewartry has not been a happy hunting ground for the visitors in recent years as the southerners have a stronger home side - but Wanderers will have to play what is in front of them and strive to get a positive result.
Elsewhere this Saturday, the men's second and third teams are away to Lanarkshire. where they'll face off against Cambuslang.
Earlier in the day, the Wee Wandies (3-5 years old) will train at Fort Matilda from 10.00-11.00am.
On Sunday the action continues, kicking off with minis training. This will see Primary 5-7 kids train at Fort Matilda from 10.30am-11.30am
This will be followed by under-13s training at Battery park, from 11am-12pm.
Back at Fort Matilda, the under-14s train from 11.30am until 1pm, with the under-15s and under-16s following from 12 noon until 1pm.
In the ladies section, the first team welcome Ayr to Fort Matilda on Sunday, with a 2pm kick off time, while the second XV are looking to recover from a heavy defeat to Lenzie last weekend when they go out on the road to face Dumfries, also with a 2pm kick-off.
Greenock Wanderers are sponsored by MMSearch, whilst the ladies section are sponsored by Straps of Gourock and Brow House Cosmetics.
