MORE than 90 young runners took part in Inverclyde Athletics Club's October Challenge event.
The challenge is another of the club's grassroots competitions, which has been a popular attraction in the junior programme for more than 20 years.
Last week’s challenge was the opening contest of four 'ZoominZebras' team challenges, which will take place over the coming year at the end of each block.
The minis session, for children aged between 5 and 8, held weekly at Clydeview Academy, hosted their own adapted version indoors, while all the club events took place outdoors at Ravenscraig Stadium.
Although it may be a bit early for Halloween, the 'ZoominZebras' team names gave a nod to the big day at the end of the month with bats, skeletons, spiders, witches and pumpkins all featuring.
The activities also took on a spooky theme, with titles like Jump the Lava flow, Ghost Chase, Spider Endurance and Push the Pumpkin.
The final activity, the Chase the Broom Relay, would prove to be a deciding factor at most sessions.
Winning teams who received the orange 'ZoominZebras' medal were the Speedy Spiders after great work on Monday, before the Spooky Skeletons took the honours on Tuesday.
Wednesday saw the Speedy Spiders take the honours in the minis section whilst the Spooky Sprinters took the club section.
For Thursday's 'ZoominZebras' racers, the Hairy Skeletons and Skull Troopers jointly took the crown after a thrilling race.
The Christmas Team Challenge, for the red ZZ medal, will take place towards the end of December.
