MODEST Morton midfielder Cameron Blues says he'd love it if lightning would strike twice and propel his side on a mazy unbeaten run to match last season's - but he's under no illusion about how big an achievement their previous streak was.

Last weekend, twelve months to the day that Ton kicked off a four-month unbeaten streak, Michael Garrity popped up in the clutches of injury time to net a vital winner against Raith Rovers and Blues now hopes the win against the Kirkcaldy men can help boost the side up the table.

He admits it would be quite peculiar if Ton could build up a head of steam over the winter months for the third season in a row but he says the Cappielow side will try to use the victory in Fife to put a run of results together.

"I don't know about lightning striking twice," he told the Tele. "Matching a 17-game unbeaten run would be really quite hard to go and do or beat.

"It was almost a lifetime before that had happened previously, that was the longest run that the club had been on since the 80's.

"I think if we did that again it'd be quite impressive. What we do want to do is always get results and if that's a draw on the road, even against the big clubs who come here you'll take a point and move on.

"We'll try and put a wee run of results together. It always seems to happen around this time of year which is a bit strange - but if it happens again then we'll be happy with that."

Blues opened up on just what occurred this time last year as the Cappielow side roared into life under Ton boss Dougie Imrie.

And he says that his side will try to take the same confidence from Garrity's match winner that they did from George Oakley's winner up in Arbroath last season.

"I can't quite put my finger on what happened but there was just a change. It was maybe just a shift in momentum after the two cup games because they were two good performances.

"George Oakley scored against Arbroath and it managed to kick on from there - I think it maybe came down to a bit of luck and confidence as well.

"There's similarities between that goal and Michael's goal - both have given us a wee bit of a boost.

"But it's one game and one goal. In terms of trying to use it as a spark  we'll definitely try and do that."

Ton will welcome an in-form Partick Thistle to Cappielow this weekend and are looking to claim their first win over the Jags since November 2022.

Blues says his side will need to come into the game with their best foot forward if they're to try and get a result against a side unbeaten in seven games.

He added: "We always try to stay positive around the dressing room and the training pitch - so hopefully we can use that to go and kick us on.

"Hopefully the weather is alright for the game at the weekend and hopefully we can go on another wee run at a good time.

"We'll see how we go - we know Partick are flying. That's them hit their stride now.

"They've got all of their players back now, which is a really good squad so we know how tough it'll be and we need to try and carry on from last week and start really well."
