GREENOCK WANDERERS are set to return to league duty at Fort Matilda this weekend as they hope to avenge their opening day defeat in the Tennent's National Division Four, writes John Dyer.
Wanderers return to league duty and are looking to make the most of their free weekend last week - but they'll be hoping that the Fort Matilda turf can withstand the cold snap that's constricted Inverclyde for much of this week so that they can host Dunfermline at home.
The earlier away fixture ended in a comfortable win for the hosts in Fife as they kicked off their league campaign in style. It is hoped that the tables will turn this time around.
Wanderers though have made good use of the break with extra training sessions concentrating on areas of concern highlighted by the players to the coaches after a players meeting.
The first team find themselves isolated in the relegation area unable to find a way to put a decent run together.
It has been the same old story for the Fort Matilda side this season, who've struggled to get a settled team together and availability at training, numbers have started to slip and, on the odd occasion the strongest team has taken the park, the wins have not materialised.
The visitors on Saturday, by contrast, are vying for promotion and it will be a big ask for Wanderers to get anything from the match.
This week's selection with the inclusion of the older heads should give the home side a fighting chance of taking something from the match.
Elsewhere the second team will travel to Glasgow to face off against Jordanhill, where they'll look to continue a decent run of form.
