A NOW well-known 'Greenock granny' was spotted cheering on her Scotland star grandson at Edinburgh Rugby’s league clash with Benetton at the weekend.

Greenock expat Jacqueline Thomson shot to prominence last month after she was flown out from Australia to Scotland to surprise her grandson and Scotland captain Sione Tuipulotu and his younger brother Mosese.

The 77-year-old was then spotted cheering in the crowd last month as Sione touched down for the opening score in Scotland’s 27-13 win over Australia at Murrayfield.

And it appears she has also been keeping tabs on her younger grandson as she was present at the Hive stadium in Edinburgh on Saturday to watch Mosese and Sean Everitt’s men take on Italian side Benetton in the United Rugby Championship.

Pictures posted after Edinburgh’s 50-33 win show Mosese posing with his much-loved grandmother and embracing her.

Sione and Mosese both qualify for the Scottish national team thanks to Jacqueline’s Greenock roots and just last week the trio paid a visit to Greenock where Jacqueline was able to visit her childhood home.

The town’s local rugby club, Greenock Wanderers, has also recognised the brothers’ Greenock connection by presenting them with honorary memberships of the club.
