MORTON have announced Derek McInnes as the latest ex-player to join the club's hall of fame.

McInnes signed for Morton in 1987 at the age of 16 and made his debut in their last season in the Premier Division, under his mentor Allan McGraw.

The following season he made over 35 appearances as he established himself as a first-team mainstay.

At the age of 21 the midfielder became club captain.

He suffered a serious injury in 1993, dislocating his kneecap, and was out of action for a year. His return after three rounds of surgery coincided with the team's memorable Second Division title-winning season of 1994-95.

The midfielder led a superb side which also featured Derek Lilley, Alan Mahood and 'Flying Finns' Janne Lindberg and Marko Rajamaki.

He became the subject of constant transfer interest and signed for Rangers in November 1995 for £260,000, winning trophies and playing in the Champions League with the Ibrox club.

He moved on to West Bromwich Albion in 2000 and also earned two Scotland caps before spells with Dundee United and St Johnstone, where he made the transition to management.

He led Saints into the top flight and after a spell down south at Bristol City he managed Aberdeen to League Cup glory in 2014.

Now in charge of Kilmarnock, McInnes remains a firm favourite with Ton fans who remember him for his 258 appearances, scoring 19 goals.

He will be inducted into the Ton hall of fame at the club's end of season dinner next month.
