MORTON have named decorated former winger John McNeil as the latest addition to their hall of fame class of 2024.
John joined the club as a schoolboy in 1973 and went on to play at Cappielow for 16 years, making 402 appearances and scoring 81 goals.
He is fondly remembered by supporters as being blessed with a wonderful left foot and could play in midfield, out wide or as a striker.
He is seventh in the all-time list of Morton appearances.
Aged just 16, John scored in his first Morton appearance in a friendly against Huddersfield Town only hours after joining the club.
His competitive debut came a month later and he played his last game for the club in 1990.
During his career he was frequently linked with moves to larger sides and he once had a trial period at Arsenal.
He won three league titles with the Ton, in 1977/78, 1983/84 and 1986/87. McNeil is one of only two Morton players to be a triple champion with Ton, the other being his ex-team-mate Jim Holmes.
After passing the 400-appearance milestone, he had a testimonial match against Rangers which was watched by 3,500 fans.
His son, David, went on to play for the club from 2013-15.
John will be inducted into the Ton hall of fame at the end of the season awards night, where Roy Baines, Joe Harper and Derek McInnes will also be honoured.
