PARTICK Thistle could be set to inflict a massive blow on Morton by swooping for their player of the year George Oakley.
The Tele understands that Jags' boss Kris Doolan wants the big striker at Firhill and has made his move for the out of contract ace, who has made himself a fans' favourite at Cappielow over the last 18 months.
Oakley is understood to be one of a number of players currently mulling over offers of a contract extension with Ton.
But it's believed that despite the club tabling an improved and generous offer, the Jags are poised to outdo it.
Manager Dougie Imrie had previously revealed that he was facing a fight to secure the signatures of a number of key players and it is believed that talks have taken place between Oakley and the Maryhill outfit.
Key man Oakley was instrumental in Ton's remarkable sixteen game mid-season unbeaten run, a sequence which saw them beat the likes of Dundee United and Motherwell.
He netted a perfect hat-trick at Tannadice as well as the decisive strike in the cup tie triumph over the Steelmen.
His 13 goals during the season have attracted interest from a host of other sides, with a queue of clubs lining up at the Englishman’s door.
Ton boss Imrie said back in March that he wanted to build a team around the hitman and his exit would be a major setback.
It also follows the news that midfielder Robbie Crawford looks set to snub his new deal offer for a return to the Jags.
Oakley, meanwhile, is the second striker to be linked with a move away from Cappielow this week, with top scorer Robbie Muirhead said to be a target of Livingston.
Ton boss Imrie already has incoming new boy Jordan Davies on the way from Connah’s Quay Nomads, but now seems set to face a hunt for more firepower over the summer.
