MORTON’S commercial director says the club is keen to develop its youth academy in a bid to self-generate revenue.
In an update shared with fans on YouTube, Sam Robinson described the club’s commercial position as ‘on track’ and said he is ‘relatively pleased’ with the income brought in so far.
Sam described his vision for the future in the clip, including his hopes for the youth academy.
He said: “The youth academy we see as being a fairly significant opportunity for us to sort of self-generate revenue.
“We’ve seen recently clubs like Hamilton Accies have moved three or four of their players and that’s added a six figure sum to their bottom line. I think that’s the next stage for us.
“In a club of our size, the commercial revenue should represent about 25 per cent of the club’s income stream.
“Currently it’s about 17 per cent, so you can see what the gap is there.
“That’s what we’re trying to close. If we can get to the 25 per cent – which will make us standard, make us average – then I think we will significantly contribute to both the first team and the development of the youth teams.”
