WARY Morton goalkeeper Ryan Mullen says that every cup game is a potential banana skin as he looks to get off to a winning start in the Premier Sports Cup group stages against East Fife today.

Ton travel to Bayview for the first time in three years this afternoon as Mullen looks to help put his side in as good a position as possible to qualify for the last 16 of the competition for the second year on the bounce under Dougie Imrie.

But Mullen insists that his side will attack their group with the same positivity that they did last season that earned them a money-spinning tie against Rangers at Ibrox.

He told the Tele: “Every game is a banana skin in the cup. If you find yourself going behind and not picking up points, you’re chasing your tail and we don’t want to do that.

“Hopefully we can go and get a win, we’re going there to try and win. It’ll be a tough game but we’re ready do dust ourselves off and go again.

“We want to qualify from the group stages again. We’ll hopefully be as positive again this year as we were last year in the group.

“Hopefully we won’t get as tough a draw as we did last time around if it pans out the way that we want it to.

“You want to progress in the cup as much as possible but we look forward to any challenge that comes our way.

“Even like on Tuesday against Premier League opposition, I think we’ve shown on more than one occasion in the last 18 months that we’re ready to test ourselves against them.

“We want to prove that we’re good enough to go and play at that level.

“It’s going to be a good cup campaign, and I really hope that we can kick on again.”

The former Celtic and Clyde stopper says that pre-season couldn’t have gone much better as they look to implement the new style that Imrie’s looking to use.

And even though his side lost out against St Mirren on Tuesday night, Mullen believes that he and his teammates have shown the signs that they can kick on to have a really positive season in the Championship.

He added: “I thought the boys were excellent throughout pre-season, especially on Tuesday against St Mirren.

“I don’t think the scoreline reflected that game at all because we created a load of chances.

“I’ll have a look back at the goals because I could have possibly done better with them.

“But that’s something that i’ll look to work on during the season.

“I think we’ve been very good overall in pre-season, there’s still a lot of positives to take.”
