MORTON forward Jordan Davies says that today’s Premier Sports Cup clash against St Johnstone is the kind of game he came to Scotland for as he opened up on his start to life at Cappielow.

With Group F wide open heading into the clash against Craig Levein’s side, Davies fully believes he and his teammates are capable of pulling off a result that would go a long way in helping them seal progression to the last 16.

And he opened up on how his start to life in Inverclyde has been, as he looks to develop and adapt to his new surroundings.

Davies told the Tele: “Games like this, are the type of game that I've come up here to be a part of.

“Everyone wants to play in the big games against Premiership sides, it’s a chance to showcase yourself ultimately and we know how tough it’ll be.

“The gaffer believes in us much like we do and we believe we can go there and get something out of the game.

“I’ve enjoyed the start of my time here - it’s just about developing my game.

“The gaffer wants me to play in a different way than I’m used too, but it’s about developing that and I’m really looking forward to doing that.”

Davies’ move to Cappielow raised eyebrows after a prolific season in the JD Cymru Premier League with Connah’s Quay Nomads.

The versatile Wales C cap netted 26 times last season and although he’s not managed to break his competitive duck as of yet, he feels as if the goals are just around the corner as he backed himself to hit the mark sooner rather than later.

Davies also pointed out that he couldn't have a better support in his corner in the form of Douge Imrie and Andy Millen as he makes the transition into full time football.

He added: “I’m happy with how I’m playing thus far, although it could have been a bit better in terms of adding a few more goals to help the team, but overall I’m happy.

“I’m getting in the right places, I’m not happy to miss as no striker ever is, but I’m taking the positives out of being in the right places to miss.

“I’m hoping that once one comes though, that it’ll all come together and go from there.

“My run last season all came down to confidence, you just need to believe in yourself which I obviously do.

“The gaffer and the team believes in me, they’ll come.

“Having guys like the gaffer and Andy in my corner, with their experience and their respective journeys in the game is huge.

“They’ve been brilliant with me as have the senior boys, it’s brilliant to have that support and belief and it can only help to push me on.”

Davies admits his side have a lot to do to qualify from their cup section after their opening day defeat to East Fife.

But he believes Morton have something to build from following Tuesday night’s win over Brechin City.

Davies said: “It’s a good thing that the group is wide open, we’re feeling positive about that.

“Our objective before kicking a ball was to qualify from the group. But after last Saturday we know it’s going to be tough.

“Our immediate aim was to go into Tuesday night looking to get three points and take that into this weekend’s game, and we managed to do that.

“We’ll now set out our game plan, follow it and then hopefully we can pull something off.”
