MORTON bosses have praised the work of their groundsman after Cappielow’s pitch received a ‘gold standard’ rating.

The stadium’s surface was awarded four out of five as part of its annual Scottish FA Club Licensing.

The rating follows a season in which the pitch saw additional usage by Rangers’ B side, the Scottish Schools FA and Scotland’s national youth teams.

Dale Pryde MacDonald, Morton’s general manager, said: “Firstly, well done to Mark Farrell our Groundsman on receiving this rating for the surface.

“With a heavy migration to artificial surfaces in this country it makes it even more pleasing that we are still producing a gold standard of grass pitch to be played on week in, week out.

“The club have invested money over the last two years to help with the surface and more importantly new drainage under the surface that we hope will help us to maintain if not better this score next year.”
