MORTON'S super fans packed into Cappielow yesterday to watch their favourite players take part in a training session before the league campaign kicks off.

It was a real festival atmosphere as manager Dougie Imrie and his players - including his new signings - came on to the pitch to roars from the crowds.

As youngsters sang 'No Morton No Party', there were high hopes in the stands for the new season with the plays off being the fans' goal.

Morton threw open the gates to invite fans in for an exclusive glimpse of the team before giving them a chance to meet and greet the players.

Fans of all ages looked on as Dougie put new signings like Jay Emmanuel Thomas, who is already looking life a fans favourite, and Lamar Reynolds.

Young fan Logan McCairn, aged 11, who brought along his mum Danielle, little brother Luke and sister Leanna to watch.

He said: "I am looking forward to the new season and can't wait to see Reynolds play."

Mum Danielle added: "It is great to be able to do this in the summer holidays and especially when Logan does to the games, he loves it. We are all having a great time."

Sister Leanna, aged 6, said: "This is my first time and I can't wait to come back!"

Lifelong supporter Jon Campbell, aged 33, was in the stands with his son Joey, aged two, as they cast an eye over the squad.

Jon, aged 33, said: "This is Joey's first time at Cappielow and he seems to be loving it so far so we will be back for this first game.

"It is good to see the team training and I am looking forward to the new season.

"I definitely want to see us go one better this year and get into the play offs. We have to be aiming for that."

Also sitting in the stands on the day were the youngsters from the Youth Connections Burns Square Play scheme. 

They got the party started with some songs and roared the players on to the pitch.

Manager Dougie Imrie and his coaching staff put their players through running sessions and ball skills in front of the crowd.

They then went over to greet the supporters who had come to watch.

Chairman John Laird was delighted to see so many fans in the stand for the open training session.

He said: "It is fantastic to see the fans turning up and the atmosphere is great. It is a great chance to see the players in action at training.

"It was something that Dougie wanted to do this along with myself and the general manager Dale Pryde-MacDonald.

"We want to encourage as many young fans through the door as possible."
