MORTON forward Jay Emmanuel-Thomas says he’s given himself a base to build from as he looks to lead the line for Dougie Imrie’s men this season.
JET featured for 70-minutes in his first match in almost four months in Ton’s Championship opener against Partick after being forced to watch on from the stands against Alloa last weekend.
It was a positive showing from the former Bristol City, QPR and Ipswich man who missed a golden chance within the first ten minutes of the Firhill clash – but he says he’ll get sharper over the coming games.
He told the Tele: “It was my first set of minutes, which I was pleased with. Obviously after we got to about the hour mark, I was just talking it through with the manager about how I felt and if it was time for a change.
“The more the game goes on, depending on how it is then you might need to bring on more legs to go and stretch the game.
"If that’s the case, then if I need to switch positions or even go off, it’s part of the game.
“Playing 70-minutes on your debut is not a bad thing by any stretch.
“I feel in good condition, but I know I can only get fitter. In each game you’re looking to maybe extend it to 80 or 90 minutes to the point where you don’t have to come off.
“That’ll be the aim for me over the next few games, but we’ve got seven days to prepare now so we’ll dust ourselves down and go again.”
