MORTON goalkeeper Ryan Mullen says that the Cappielow side’s new look defence will only get stronger ahead of today’s Championship clash against Hamilton Accies.

Only one of the back four who started Ton’s final league game of the 2023/24 season (Kirk Broadfoot) started in last week’s side for their curtain raiser at Firhill in a side that kept a brilliant clean sheet.

And the former Celtic kid reckons that it can only mean good things as they prepare to deal with the curveballs that’ll inevitably be thrown at them throughout the season as he looks forward to the pressure of getting back in front of the Cowshed support.

He told the Tele: “The team is starting to glue together – I think you saw that against Partick, which as an almost new backline is really promising.

“I’d imagine that there’d be times during the season where things will rotate and be changed.

“Boys will pick up knocks and either be in form or out of form, so to click like that right at the start is good, and hopefully it’s the start of many clean sheets to come this season.

“It’s promising because games are going to be decided by the flip of a coin and I feel as though if we can go out and do the right things, especially at home with the crowd behind us then we’ll be a match for anyone.

“Having the pressure of that crowd being right behind you and then backing you to the hilt, I love it.

“When you hear the fans you get that shot of adrenaline, whether it’s after making a save or getting a chance, the place erupts.

"It’s something we thrive off as a team.”
