IMPOSING Morton defender Morgan Boyes says he couldn’t have asked for a much better start to the league campaign after helping his side keep back-to-back clean sheets.
He hopes that the two shutouts against Partick and Hamilton will help his side build some momentum for when they get back under way on league duty in 10 days’ time.
And he's backed his side to start hitting the back of the net sooner rather than later.
Boyes has been impressive since returning from injury, after picking up a knock that saw him miss Ton's final two group fixtures in the Premier Sports Cup.
And the 23-year-old hopes that the painful decision to sit out will pay off in the long run.
He told the Tele: “As a defender, you can’t ask for much more than two clean sheets in your first two league games.
“It’s the old cliché, isn’t it: if you don’t win, you don’t lose. We’ve done that twice now, and the two clean sheets will help us build some momentum.
“You just need to hope that one shot does come off and we do score. Then the rest will follow on from there.
“It’s also good to be back playing. It was a tough decision to make, to sit out those two games in order to be ready for the league, but you do need to think about the long-term effects of rushing back.
“Hopefully that’s me back now and I can play as many games as possible this season.”

Boyes says it’s clear to see how Ton will approach games this season with their new playing style.
He admits his side could’ve been out of sight against Hamilton Accies, and reckons fans are taking notice of their free-flowing approach.
He added: “I think you can see in both [Championship] games what we’re trying to do.
“In that first half against Hamilton, especially, we created so many good opportunities. The game could’ve been done inside the first 15-20 minutes.
“You can see how we’re trying to play from the outside looking in. We’re attacking and exciting, you can see how good it is.”
