MORTON WOMEN’S manager Gary Forbes says his side will take the positives they can from their opening day defeat to Glasgow Women.
The Parklea side travelled to Lanarkshire on the opening day of the Barclays SWF Championship, looking to defy the odds against a side who were competing in the Premiership’s second tier last season.
Glasgow were much fancied heading into the tie, and came out on top by a 3-2 margin, but Forbes was pleased with the attitude his side took into the match.
He told the Tele: “The game went well for us in terms of application and effort. We created some really good chances.
“We went one-nil up before then coming right back into the game with around 15 minutes to go to pin Glasgow right back.
“I think that there’s loads of positives to take from the game. We can take all the encouragement from that game.
“Glasgow have just come out of Prem 2 last season, but it was an extremely tight and competitive match.”
Morton had raced into an early lead after a trialist did well to get in behind the Glasgow backline before cutting in on to the left foot and firing beyond the goalkeeper into the far corner.
The strike left Morton's hosts shell-shocked, but they quickly dusted themselves down and get back into the tie after Caitlin McKee levelled up to come back and haunt her former side.
This would give Glasgow the momentum to then go on and add another, going 2-1 up heading into the break as Emma Rogers netted five minutes before half time.

Alana Meechan looked to have put the game to bed just before the hour mark with the home side's third of the day.
But Ton’s 17-year-old sensation Isla Galvin had other ideas as she powered home with her head, setting up a grandstand finish with just over 10 minutes to play.
Even though an equaliser never came, Forbes was more than happy with the performance his side put in, even if he was disappointed with the nature of how his side almost immediately surrendered their lead.
He added: “There’s a lot more positives to take than not. But from our perspective we’ll be disappointed at how we failed to hold on to our lead for longer.
“Something we spoke about before the game was getting through the tough times, but we were vulnerable after scoring. It’s something we can work on.
“Everyone fancied Glasgow to go and win the game comfortably, but we showed that we’re more than capable of competing with any team in the division.
“That’s only the third game they’ve played together since I’ve come in. That’s really positive, we competed for long spells, and it was by no means one sided.
Forbes will now prepare his side to take on eighth place side Hutchison Vale this weekend as he prepares to lead his side out at Cappielow in the absence of a men’s first team fixture.
Kick off for this one is at 2pm on Sunday.
