MORTON fullback Zak Delaney is keen to keep the side’s run of consecutive clean sheets going – and hopes he can do more to help out his teammates at the top of the park.

The 22-year-old says the Ton have been working hard this week as they get ready to travel to newly-relegated Livingston on Saturday.

Dougie Imrie’s men are yet to concede a goal in the Championship, having played out goalless draws against Partick Thistle at Firhill and Hamilton at Cappielow.

And Delaney believes that keeping the Jags quiet at their home ground shows the side have the ability to keep a clean sheet at the league’s toughest venues.

He said: “I think in that game, all of us in the back four, and even the boys in front, put an absolute shift in.

“They might come off at 60 or 70 because they’re burst, but that’s what you want, isn't it? That’s what the boys on the bench are for.

“We’ve got a good squad to come on and help us out again, and hopefully they’ll do the same on Saturday."

Livingston began their campaign in the second tier with a 2-0 win over Dunfermline on day one, before coming from behind to draw 1-1 with Queen's Park at Lesser Hampden last time out.

Delaney continued: “We definitely want to keep the clean sheets going. If we keep coming away with them I’ll be buzzing every week.

“Obviously away at Partick is a tough game, to keep a clean sheet there is good, and then a clean sheet at home.

“If you keep a clean sheet, you always have a chance at picking up points. It’s just about taking a few of the chances that we are getting now."

While the defender is pleased with the Ton’s defensive record so far, he isn’t getting complacent, and is keen to do what he can to help out at the other end of the park.

He added: “Up the top end of the pitch I'd like to help out the boys a bit more.

“Now the full back role is a bit more up and down. That’s the way the gaffer wants us to play as well.

“I enjoy doing that side of it, getting a bit further up and putting a few more balls in the box if possible at times, maybe chip in."

The Ton have had an extra week to prepare for this fixture, having not been involved in last weekend’s league cup action.

Delaney says the team have been hard at work getting ready for the challenge of facing David Martindale’s side.

He told the Tele: “You always think about who you’re playing against. Everyone’s different and each game is different.

“We have in mind what they’re going to do and we’re going to do, but we’re focussed on us on training and making sure we’re training well.

"Towards the end of the week the gaffer will tell us a little bit about them and what we can do.”
