GREENOCK footballer and former Morton player Jack Iredale has joined Scottish Premiership side Hibernian.

The defender joined the club yesterday for an undisclosed fee, signing a two-year deal at Easter Road.

The 28-year-old was born in Greenock before moving to New Zealand and then Australia at a young age.

In 2017 he joined the Ton and made more than a dozen appearances in all competitions.

His name was in the headlines when a wonder-strike against Dundee United was nominated for the SPFA Goal of the Season award, and his performances earned him a new contract extension.

He left Morton in 2019 and has had spells at Carlisle United, Cambridge United and Bolton Wanderers before his move to Hibs.

Hibs head coach David Gray told the club’s official website that the defender would add flexibility to his side.

He said: “Jack is an experienced centre-half and knows the Scottish game well from his time at Greenock Morton and Queen’s Park.

“We’ve wanted to add a left-footed defender to the first team squad this window, and he adds extra flexibility and competition for places being comfortable at both centre-half and left-back.

“It’s great to be able to welcome Jack to Hibs and we look forward to working with him.”
