GREENOCK Juniors' West of Scotland League team may have been out of action at the weekend, but it was a busy two days for the club's 'pathway' set-up, with three of the club's four youth teams recording impressive wins.

The development team were first up on Friday night at Battery Park where, despite having a slightly depleted squad due to suspensions and SFA Comet induced eligibility issues, the boys produced a strong performance to defeat Neilston FC 3-1 in the WOSFDL League Cup.

McCauley, Feeney and T. Beckley were the scorers, with Kian O'Brian chosen as the man of the match.

Greenock now sit top of their section, with one game to go against Kilwinning Rangers; victory in that match will ensure progression to the next round, though a draw might be enough depending on other results.

The 2008s had a free weekend as their game against Port Glasgow at Parklea was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The club's 2007s defeated Giffnock SC 3-2 at Auldhouse; MacPherson, Connelly and McKenzie were all on target, with Gordon MacPherson the man of the match as the Nock side made it two wins from three in division two of the Paisley, Johnstone and District YFL.

Meanwhile, Greenock’s 2009 squad welcomed a well-fancied St Anthony’s side to Notre Dame on Saturday and treated a very decent crowd to a sparkling display of technical football in the warm sunshine on their way to a 5-1 win.

Carrick, Boyland (2) and Owens were responsible for the Greenock goals, with an own goal completing the home side's tally and Lewis Owens earning himself the man-of-the-match accolade.

There was a very watchable balance of tactical discipline, flair and surprising maturity from such a young group.

There is also real depth to the squad as the substitutes, when called upon, slotted in seamlessly to the team.
