DOUGIE Imrie has warned his team to be on their toes ahead of a potential banana skin clash against Cowdenbeath this afternoon.

The Ton travel to west Fife today to face the Blue Brazil in the third round of the Challenge Cup.

While the Cappielow club will be everyone's heavy favourites for the fixture against the Lowland League side, Imrie has told his side to stay alert, with the memory of his team’s 3-0 loss to League Two side East Fife in July fresh in his mind.

He told the Telegraph: “I’ve made that clear to the boys this morning.

“In the league cup we’ve already been to East Fife, a banana skin, and lost heavily, albeit we were still gelling at that point.

“I think if you were to turn that back now, the scoreline wouldn’t be the same, but we can’t dwell on that.

“We can’t go to Cowdenbeath on Saturday with the mentality that it’s a Lowland League team, we just have to turn up and win no matter what happens.

“I know for a fact Cowdenbeath will be up for the game. They’ve got nothing to lose.

“They’ll be at it looking to cause a cup upset so we have to go there with the right mentality.

“It’s a tight pitch, it’ll not be easy to play, so we have to go there and take the game to Cowdenbeath.”

The Morton manager has also issued an update on the fitness of his squad members ahead of the Central Park clash.

Imrie says he expects summer signing Dylan Corr, who recently underwent an operation, to be out for around three to four months.

He also revealed that winger Nathan Shaw, who the Ton snapped up over the summer, was around four weeks away from returning, having picked up a knock while recovering from a previous injury.

Kirk Broadfoot, who sat out last weekend’s game, is not expected to feature today but Imrie is hopefully he can make a return next week.

Imrie added: “Nathan and Dylan will be a wee bit longer, Kirk will be back hopefully in contention for Queen’s Park away, if not it’ll certainly be the week after.

“Everybody else is fit and available.”
