MORTON WOMEN manager Gary Forbes says he’ll get over the disappointment of losing a late SWFL Championship equaliser against Westdyke.
Ton made a second long trip north in as many league games, this time to Aberdeenshire to take on their third tier rivals as they looked to put back-to-back defeats behind them.
It looked like they’d do so by wrapping up all three points when Jennifer Caldwell put Forbes’ side in front inside 25-minutes.
But the visitors were pegged back in the closing stages after Kayleigh Traynor latched onto a Lauren Grant error to dispatch the ball into the back of the net from range to ensure a share of the spoils.
Forbes, however, said he was keen to focus on the positives in the aftermath of the draw.
He told the Tele: “It’s a really good point to be honest. When you factor in all the external circumstances, like the trip up to Aberdeen and the kick off time, that’s two long trips we’ve had on the spin now.
“It’s a really good point to gain, even if it is frustrating that we only got a point, because we’d led from around the 25th minute and conceded in the 86th.
"But we need to take that as a positive. These things happen.
“The league is still tight, so to keep on picking up points and remain in the pack is quite pleasing. Everyone on their day will be able to beat anyone.
“It’s also pleasing to see that there’s not a massive gap between ourselves and the top four at the moment, aside from the top two, but even then they’re not a million miles away.”
Forbes’ side return to Parklea for the first time in over a month this weekend, as they welcome local rivals Renfrew to Inverclyde.
A win would see Ton move three points clear of their visitors and level on points with fourth placed Falkirk, and Forbes says he’s been pleased with his side’s start to league duties this season, with four points after four games.
He added: “In football, six points can be made up pretty quickly. Being four points away from the bottom and three off the relegation play off is pleasing too.
“It’s probably the kind of start that we wanted to have and thought we’d have.
“Bar the Inverness game, we’re happy with how we’re competing in our first four league games.”
