THE last 48 hours have been a whirlwind for the staff and team at Morton who have been left reeling after the termination of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas's contract  following his appearance in court.

The club acted swiftly after JET was arrested at his Gourock home on Wednesday morning in connection with a £600,000 cannabis seizure that took place at London's Stanstead Airport at the beginning of September

The club released him from his contract 'with immediate effect' after learning he had appeared in court in Carlisle and was subsequently denied bail.

Fans were quick to commend Morton bosses for their swift and decisive action but the fallout leaves boss Dougie Imrie with a headache as he now looks to fill a hole at the top end of the pitch.

JET had started all five of Ton's Championship fixtures this season but he failed to find the back of the net.

The dramatic departure of the 33-year-old brought an end to a fleeting 52-day career at Cappielow and his release now leaves the Greenock men scrambling.

If there is room in the budget to replace him, Imrie has ten days to utilise the loan window, otherwise its left to a quickly dwindling pool of free-agents available.

Here's three options that the Morton boss could look too:

Tomi Adeloye

The former Ayr United and Partick man is still a free agent after leaving League Two side Swindon Town under freedom of contract at the end of last season.

The 28-year-old has been a thorn in the side of Dougie Imrie's sides in recent years, notably last season where he netted in Partick's 4-1 victory at Cappielow in September last year, before setting up Ricco Diack's late leveller in the 1-1 draw back in January.

The Englishman netted nine times in 21 Championship appearances last season before brutally tearing his hamstring which saw him miss out on the run-in last season.

Despite this though, he boasted one of the best goal-to-minute ratios in the division after playing second fiddle to Brian Graham for much of the campaign.

His header for Ayr, in another 1-1 draw back in March 2022, shows that the no.9 can provide an array of finishes as well as be a crucial link in build-up play.

Alas, he appears to be still recovering from said hamstring injury and that could see any potential move kicked into the long grass although, his options do seem limited.

Gabby McGill

The former Airdrieonians and Dunfermline forward may not appear to be the most prolific forward in the world - but he gave Morton a torrid time of it in last season's 3-1 defeat at the Excelsior Stadium and his profile fits the Dougie Imrie bill.

His four goal tally may not seem all too encouraging but when you factor in the fact that he turned out as a striker, winger, a central midfielder and even as a left back, a run in his desired position could well see him flourish in Scotland's second tier under a manager who's got a great track record of helping strikers kick on to a new level.

He's fast, can hold the ball up and importantly lead the line when required, despite sitting at just under six foot in height.

He was linked with moves to both Partick Thistle and Raith Rovers during the summer after leaving Airdrie, but he'd most likely have played second fiddle to Brian Graham at Firhill and to the likes of Jack Hamilton and Lewis Vaughan at Stark's Park.

Perhaps the chance of being an undisputed first choice striker may appeal to him after failing to seal a move before the end of August.

Bobby Wales

The Killie youngster is a name that's probably on the lips of three or four managers in the Championship as they look to fine tune their front lines.

A loan move to the Championship makes perfect sense for Wales who lit up League One whilst with Alloa Athletic who, with his dominant displays at the Recs, he helped get all the way to the play-off quarter-finals after an impressive 14 goal haul under Andy Graham.

His efforts in Clackmannanshire earned him rave reviews and call-ups to Scotland's U19's squad where he scored his first goal in European qualifiers against Georgia in a 3-2 defeat.

That form had saw him win the trust of gaffer Derek McInnes, who threw him in at the deep end in his side's UEFA Conference League qualifier against Tromso at Rugby Park.

His decision paid off, as he rose off the bench to fire a late leveller that'd ultimately set Killie up to win the tie against the Norwegian side.

It's been a different story in the league though, with the youngster only featuring for little under a half of football as the Ayrshire side juggled the mixture of European and domestic requirements.

The chance of regular minutes has now presented itself at Ton and learning his trade under the eye of Imrie, in a full-time environment, could just be what he needs to take his game to that next level.
